We’re delighted to announce that Ellie Barwick has accepted the role of District Lead Volunteer for the City of Newcastle!
Ellie is currently a Cub Scout Leader with the 17th Newcastle Scout Group.
Commenting on the appointment, County Lead Volunteer for Northumberland Scouts, Peter Thorp said:
“I would like to thank Kath Tyson for the tremendous amount of time, effort and hard work she has put into the City of Newcastle, and prior to that Great North and Newcastle East. Over the past 20 years Kath has been a District Commissioner, Deputy District Commissioner, part of Team District Commissioner and for the past 2 years District Lead Volunteer. Kath has also played a key role as part of the County Team, supporting Scouting across Northumberland.
“Kath has done an amazing job and will be a huge act to follow. I am delighted that Kath is not giving up Scouting and we will be announcing her new role in due course.
“Following the search for a new Lead Volunteer for the City of Newcastle District, I’m delighted to announce that Ellie Barwick has accepted the role of District Lead Volunteer with effect from the 1st May 2025. I look forward to working with Ellie in her new role.
“Welcome to the Team Ellie!”
About Ellie…
I’m a relatively recent Scout who, like so many of our adults, went along to a group to ‘see how it goes’. That was four years ago now and I haven’t looked back!
I’m a Chemistry teacher in Blyth and Cub Leader at 17th Newcastle in Jesmond. Outside work I can generally be found walking my dog, Inca, around Weetslade and Jesmond Dene or ferrying my 11-year-old to her far more exciting social life. Maybe now I’ll have somewhere to go occasionally!
I am looking forward to meeting everyone over the next few months.
