On Saturday 29th March, members of Northumberland Scouts came together to celebrate the achievements of young people from across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

At our Top Awards Presentation Day held at Northumbria University, we welcomed young people from Northumberland Scouts who have obtained the top scouting awards in their age groups.

Over the course of the day, we presented more than 300 Top Awards across 4 sessions, including the presentation of Chief Scout’s Awards, DofE Awards and King’s Scout Awards.

The King’s Scout Award is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members (aged 14-25 years old) and the highest award that can be gained by a young person in Scouting. During the Top Awards ceremony, Scarlet a Scout Network member from City of Newcastle District gave a moving account of the activities completed as part of the Award.

Our King’s Scout Award recipients will be joining fellow KSA recipients from across the UK at a special ceremony at Windsor Castle in April in recognition of their achievements.

Speaking after the presentations, Northumberland Scouts County Lead Volunteer, Peter Thorp said:

“Today we have presented nearly 300 Top Awards across 4 sessions at Northumbria University. It was a magical day seeing all of the young people who had achieved so much.

“A special mention to those young people who received their King’s Scout Awards. They have worked so hard to obtain their King’s Scout Award. Scarlet’s summary of her award was inspirational. The future of Northumberland Scouts is in very safe hands.

“Thank you to Kathryn, Pamela, Darren and Adam for all their hard work prior to the event and support today. Thank you to Laura and Logan and Shannon for all their support on the stage and a thank you to Alan and Don for helping with presenting Awards. And finally a massive thank you to all the adults who helped to run the day, the adults front of house, those backstage and those helping. We are so proud and grateful for all your support.”

A huge congratulations to all our young people who received their awards, you should all be very proud of your achievements!
